Our Private Beach
Beach Haven's private shoreline is the heart of the resort — a quiet pebble cove bordered by old-growth forest, looking out across Freeman Island and the San Juan archipelago. Paddle a kayak at sunrise, spot bald eagles overhead, drop a crab pot off the point, or just pull up a chair and watch the ferries pass. In the evening, gather around a beachside bonfire as the sun sets over the islands. Everything below is included with your cabin stay.
Paddling & Exploring
Launch right from our private beach and paddle a kayak, canoe, SUP, or rowboat out to explore Freeman Island and the surrounding waters. The calm, protected cove makes it easy for paddlers of all skill levels. Bring your own watercraft or rent one of ours — we have everything from single kayaks to tandem canoes and stand-up paddleboards.
Private Pebble Cove
Beach Haven's private shoreline stretches along a quiet pebble cove with driftwood, calm waters, and views of Freeman Island and the San Juan archipelago. Stroll the beach at low tide to discover tide pools, sea glass, and interesting shells. Pull up an Adirondack chair and watch the ferries pass, or spread out a blanket and enjoy the peaceful waterfront — no crowds, no noise, just you and the islands. See the views from our waterfront.
Playground in the Forest
Set among towering old-growth fir trees, our playground is a favorite for kids and families. The fort tower with skybridge connects to a tube slide, and there's a full swingset plus a separate toddler swing and slide. Nearby you'll find outdoor ping pong, horseshoes, and tetherball — all surrounded by the kind of ancient forest that makes Beach Haven feel like its own world. See more of the playground.
Wildlife
The old-growth forest and protected shoreline make Beach Haven a haven for wildlife too. Bald eagles nest in the tall firs overhead, and you'll often spot them fishing from the cove. River otters play along the rocks, harbor seals pop up just offshore, and deer wander through the property at dusk. Keep your eyes open for great blue herons, kingfishers, and dozens of other bird species — binoculars recommended. Learn about more things to do during your stay.

Crabbing
Dungeness and Rock Crabs inhabit the waters right off our beach. Drop a pot from shore or paddle out and set it near the point — bring your own gear or rent a crab pot in Eastsound. There's nothing quite like catching your own dinner and cooking it up in your cabin's full kitchen. Check the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife for current seasons and regulations.
Whale Watching
The San Juan Islands are one of the best places in the world to see orcas in the wild, and sometimes these magnificent creatures pass right by Beach Haven's shoreline. Transient orcas, minke whales, and humpbacks have all been spotted from our beach. For a closer look, charter whale watching tours depart from nearby Orcas Village and Friday Harbor throughout the season — see our staff recommendations for local favorites.
Beachside Bonfires
Two community fire pits sit right on the beach, surrounded by Adirondack chairs and framed by some of the best sunsets in the San Juan Islands. Grab some firewood, toast some marshmallows, and settle in for the evening show — the sky turns gold and pink as the sun drops behind the islands. It's a nightly tradition for many of our guests and one of the things people remember most about Beach Haven. See more in our epic views gallery.
